This is my latest cityscape, called 'The Brewery District'. It has a few bits of heritage glass, the words from the front and side of a Gordon's gin bottle, and some modern, architectural glass. This will be available for sale soon at the Galerie Old Chelsea. I have only one more of these flat stands and a recently-acquired selection of wording from older ink and pharmaceutical bottles just waiting to jump into the picture....I just need more time in my studio!

Getting back into the groove! My workshop has been a beehive of activity this week. I had a 3.5 hour soldering session this morning, followed by another two hours this afternoon applying patina and cleaning three of these pieces. I also realize there is an optical illusion created when I hang one piece from the chain which is about three inches from the window, and let the second piece lean into the window. The top angel is actually smaller than the bottom angel, but appears larger. I will have to work on that! I took advantage of the glorious sun at the Galerie Old Chelsea today to refresh the glass in some of my windows. I still have to figure out how to get the images to show correctly on this website....technology is not my forté.
The Oakpark Community Art Show was a lot of fun - a chance to catch up with the ladies and to hang out with artists for the weekend - always fun. As a bonus, I sold a few pieces! The show was followed quickly by the arrival of a house guest who stayed for two weeks. i have now managed to get back into my workshop and have begun working on a series of small pieces for Galerie Old Chelsea and il Primo Restaurant. First off the table was a commission - each year, this client buys three similar pieces, two for her long-term friends and the third for herself. In honour of this amazing friendship, this year I created a triptych. Each of the three pieces stands alone and is designed to sit in a small stand. The concept is that each of the friends will think of the others when they see their piece.
I had barely enough of the blue patterned glass to make this piece so I had to angle the glass to make the long curved cuts. The piece of glass that was left was in the shape of a long, elegant wave! I cut some clear glass and used some of the left-over cobalt blue glass to frame this inspiring piece. More to follow! |
