I am getting ready for the Christmas Market and Smalls Show at The Galerie Old Chelsea. The Market tables go up this Thursday December 1, and the smalls show goes up the following Thursday, December 8. The glass on the left is called 'Mon Beau Sapin' and is made with a beautiful piece of uroboros Chrsitmas glass. The glass on the left is called 'After The Dinner' and has a story all its' own...
To grant this treasure a second life, it was flattened in a kiln and incorporated into the panel using stained glass methods. In addition to the artistic perspective, a number of scientific principles apply including friction to grind and foil pieces, physics to ensure integrity, as well as chemistry and thermodynamics to solder.

Deep cuts in the heritage glass may leave channels on the back when flattened. Heat from the soldering process sometimes flows along these channels and causes a heat crack, as you can see in this piece. This visible crack represents both the fragility of relationships and the bond that supportive friends provide.

Wow...that was quick! I took 'Sing From The Heart!' to Galerie Old Chelsea yesterday morning and by the end of the day it was sold! I have one more semi-circular frame at home and some amazing teal blue glass for accents - I am just waiting now to have some more heritage glass flattened in the kiln to design a new piece. In the meantime, I am finishing up some sets of heritage suncatchers and small trees for il Primo Restaurant (29 November) and the Galerie Old Chelsea Christmas Market (1 December). In true celebration of Black Friday, I spent a small fortune at Stained Glass Stuff today acquiring some truly spectacular glass for future projects!

This has been a really fun project and will take its place on the table by the window in the gallery next week. This is part of my heritage series with a mix of interesting crystal and glass coasters and small bowls which have been flattened in a kiln.  It was late in the day when I finished this so I had to borrow my neighbour's patio table to catch the last rays of sunlight of the day. I am considering a couple of names so have not yet listed it as an Available Work...suggestions are welcome!

I am happy to announce that 'Lighter Than Air' found a new home today. This piece was made with two yougi ends, a mouth-blown glass 'balloon', and lot of open space. These 'cookie dough' ends cut from sheets of glass at the factory are so fascinating that I try to use them with only the minimum of cutting and grinding.

What a busy week! Our houseguest left on Monday morning and I spent Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning creating this blue piece, called 'Comfort in Silence' to take to the Galerie to replace 'Lots Going On' which sold last week. I stopped for an appointment on my way to the Galerie on Wednesday and took it in for 'show and tell' .... sold! So my 'to-do' list grows!
There is also a photo of the five trees that are on my table tonight. They are numbers 7 to 11 and will be part of this year's Christmas project. The first six trees can be seen this weekend at All Saints Lutheran Church located at 1061 Pinecrest (just off the Queensway).
