Hearts in Windows – For So Many Reasons
 
This series of recognizes the many reasons people across Canada and around the world have today to treasure relationships with family and friends. These hearts can be given to family and friends to remind them that you think of them often, or they may be kept in a window to remind you of treasured memories created with friends or loved ones.

Plan A for this week would have seen me cross-checking lists, planning layouts, adjusting chains, and confirming labels were in place, as I got ready for the Navan Fine Arts Exhibition and Sale. Instead I am merrily working on a privacy screen for a client's new home, with two more projects lined up immediately behind that.
Today I wanted to share with you this piece I finished a year ago, constructed of camera lenses and light filters. My plan was to introduce this piece at the Navan Exhibition. On its own in the first image, the true personality  doesn't immediately shine through. The other images show how the personality of this piece changes depending on the background. When placed in front of paintings, it reflects colour and detail. When placed in front of one of my Heritage Series pieces, it focuses the eye on the details of the heritage glass. The final image was taken on Christmas evening, definitely a festive mood. I have printed photos to display with the piece and just have to wait for the next show.

I put the finishing touches on this piece of glass this morning. While it looks pretty simple, there were a few challenges. With so many color changes and the way those changes overlap and flow through the glass, it was a challenge to cut. My suggestions for cut lines often resulted in cuts shearing off into unexpected directions. I started with a large sheet and ended up with just enough glass to finish the piece and ended up with a lot of chaos. Chaos is the collection of broken glass at the end of a project that are too beautiful and too precious to throw away. I have a couple of projects waiting in the queue, but I will create a special piece from this chaos!
I have not yet named this piece. Since it makes me think of an illustration from a children's book, I am consulting a seven-year old.
